Beautiful Tragedies
Beautiful Tragedies is a contemporary Gothic YA suspense told in second person POV. It’s like A Good Girls Guide to Murder meets We Were Liars.
Crestwood Manor had a reputation for being haunted long before it was converted into a funeral home, but to 17-year-old Maggie Stevens, it has always just been home. Maggie copes with the stresses of living in a funeral home by writing the stories of the dead in a series of journals. Wrought with heartache and sorrow, the client’s stories are not so different from the classic novels on her bookshelf.
When a deceased boy from school, the popular Marco Ramos, is rolled into the funeral home, and Maggie finds a letter addressed to her among his belongings that insinuates unrequited feelings for her as well as clues to his cause of death, she begins to investigate his murder.
She suspects his death wasn’t accidental, and that his stuck-up jock brother Adrian might know something about it. As she gets closer to Adrian, she realizes he’s nothing like she expected and finds herself in a bizarre love triangle between the living and the dead.
As they team up to find enough evidence to bring to the authorities, Maggie and Adrian grow even closer. However, when the clues they uncover point to Adrian’s family as being involved in multiple murders, Maggie must decide whether to follow her heart and betray Marco by keeping what she knows a secret or her conscience by taking what she knows to the police. But going to the cops may mean losing Adrian too. Even as more blood is spilled and hearts are broken, Maggie learns that sometimes heartache is worth it and even tragedies can be beautiful.
